Clark earned his black belt under his father, Carley Gracie, and is now a First Degree Black Belt and the only Gracie consistently teaching in San Diego. He is also the most active competitor in the Gracie family today crediting much of his success in competition to coach Rodrigo Medeiros, who gave him the competitive edge and preparation to be the champion he is today. Like his father, Clark practices and teaches techniques that rely on position and leverage making Jiu-Jitsu ideal for a smaller person to overpower a bigger and stronger opponent. Clark teaches that small details are very important to get the full advantage of the technique. He is the grandson of Carlos Gracie, the creator of Brazilian (Gracie) Jiu Jitsu. Carlos Gracie is the older brother and teacher of Helio Gracie. Between the two of them they developed the most efficient fighting system ever created, defeating all different challengers, big and small of all other martial arts.
Clark's father, Carley Gracie, is known as the "lion of the Gracie family" and earned his black belt from his father, Carlos Gracie. Carley was the last of the Gracie fighters to be personally trained and coached by Carlos Gracie. He is now one of the world's few Red Belts in Brazilian jiu-jitsu.
The main theme of Jiu Jitsu, is the skill of controlling a resisting opponent in ways that force him to submit. Because control is generally easier on the ground, much of the technique of Jiu Jitsu focuses on taking the opponent down to the ground and excercising jiu jitsu grapling like maneuvers for dominant control positions that render the oponent harmless. Classes are taught five days a week. Come and try an introductory class, we're confident that Jiu Jitsu will become one of the most cherished and enjoyable aspects of your life. It will give you a confidence, knowledge, body dexterity and fitness that a few people will ever know. For more information, visit the Clark Gracie Jiu Jitsu Academy at Clark Gracie dot com
